The tiny village of Horsey sits on the coastal edge of the Broads National Park, and despite its small size, is a must-visit destination for anyone who wants to experience the real East Anglia. Horsey Dunes, the beach which the village overlooks, is a major wildlife habitat, with a colony of Grey Seals giving birth on the beach every winter.

The village is also home to Horsey wind-pump, one of the best surviving examples of traditional Norfolk wind-power, protected by the National Trust, and a brilliant spot for a picnic. While Horsey is on the edge of the Broads network, and doesn’t offer much in the way of boating opportunities, its fantastic diversity of wildlife makes it a great day-trip destination.

Horsey Mere Nature reserve can be reached by navigating Hickling Broad, and is a wonderful spot to do a little birdwatching. The reserve is a site of Special Scientific Interest owned by the National Trust, and is a great family picnic spot.

If you’re navigating the north-eastern parts of the Broads network, Horsey is a great destination for anyone who wants to experience the tranquil beauty of the North Norfolk coastline. Though the village’s seal population is only active in the winter, Horsey is a wonderful place to visit all year round.
